Just a short drive from Nerja towards the hills, you come across this
picturesque village of whitewashed houses. With its narrow cobbled streets lined
with bourgainvillea and geraniums, it is no surprise that Frigiliana has been
voted 'Prettiest village in Andalucía'! Wandering through the village takes you
past beautiful arrays of local ceramic and weaving shops, and typical Spanish
bars and restaurants where you can sample the local specialities, and at the top
you'll find the ruins of a fort with a dramatic history
La Vinuela is a traditional, picturesque village situated about 20 minutes
inland from the busy tourist resorts of the coast. This is a place where you can
escape the bustle and enjoy 'the quiet life' beside your private pool. Nearby,
there is a good choice bars and restaurants as well as a small supermarket for
provisions. Those determined to find activities don't need to look far; the area
is perfect for hill walking, horse riding is available close by and there is a
golf course less than 15 minutes drive away.
Although renowned as a luxurious playground of the rich, with its designer
boutiques, art galleries and upmarket bars, Marbella old town's rambling streets
offer another "face" of the town, where you can sample authentic Spanish tapas.
The Marbella coastline has 25 kilometres of sandy beaches, pleasure marinas and
plenty of opportunity for watersports as well as world class golf courses.
Nearby Puerto Banus is a smaller and arguably more atmospheric cosmopolitan
resort, with boutiques and beachfront bars and restaurants bordering the harbour

For those who prefer the beach life and the facilities that a resort can offer,
this area is an ideal choice. Mijas is a traditional Spanish hill town whose
winding streets are lined with whitewashed houses and various craftspeople and
authentic Spanish restaurants. Campo Mijas is peacefully nestled in the
foothills between Mijas and the superb sandy beaches and crystal clear waters of
the famous Costa del Sol coastline, which offers all the facilities that a
family might need for an active and enjoyable holiday. In this same area lies
the Mijas Golf development, which comprises the beautifully landscaped golf
course, clubhouse with restaurant and a small selection of amenities on site.
The perfect choice for avid golfers, but also for families looking for a quiet
setting often with open views to the hills, yet conveniently close to the beach.
Located about 50km east of Malaga, Nerja is a welcoming town that has
nevertheless managed to retain much of its character and heritage, particularly
in the rambling streets of the old quarter. With wide stretches of sand easily
accessible, and a family atmosphere, it's a great place to take the family. The
fascinating and impressive Caves of Nerja are definitely worth a visit, whilst
the more adventurous can drive north over the Sierra Nevada mountains to the
historic Moorish palaces of the Alhambra at Granada.
